With each passing day since the Sandy Hook tragedy, we hold our children tight, tuck them into their beds, and grieve for the parents who will never kiss another sleeping cheek. Then we wonder. How safe are our children? Could this happen to our babies? In our communities?

Amazon Has Another Huge Security Hole

You may recall that Amazon was implicated as the weak link in the Mat Honan iCloud hack, wherein a gadget blogger had his entire online identity nuked from orbit because Amazon gave up the secondary identifying information necessary to issue a password reset over at Apple. (The last four of your credit card, incidentally.) I'm sad to say that Amazon has clearly not improved their authentication protocols in any meaningful way, but this time it's hurting them directly.

Treasury announces GM exit strategy; automaker buying 200 million shares from U.S.

The Obama administration said Wednesday it will sell 200 million shares — or 40 percent of its remaining stake in General Motors Co. — back to the automaker and announced plans to completely exit the Detroit automaker by March 2014.

The Detroit automaker said it will purchase 200 million shares of GM stock held by Treasury for $5.5 billion — or $27.50 per share — nearly $2 above the stock's closing price on Tuesday. GM shares jumped sharply on the news and were up 7.5 percent to $27.36, or $1.90, early afternoon in very heavy trading.

... What a lethal, false security are the "gun-free zone" laws. Virtually all mass murders in the past 20 years have occurred in gun-free zones. The two people murdered several days earlier in a shopping center in Oregon were also killed in a gun-free zone....

That’s not Vader’s Death Star, that’s Tethys, a moon of Saturn, seen by the Cassini spacecraft in late June, 2012. Tethys is about 1,100 kilometers (660 miles) across, a third the size of our Moon. Unlike the Earth’s moon, Tethys is mostly water ice: It’s actually less dense than water, so it would float!
